Start with the job, not the visa

An Employment Pass and S Pass are work passes: an employer applies, and the candidate does not self-sponsor a standard relocation. The Employment Pass is for qualifying professionals, managers, executives and technicians; the S Pass has its own salary, levy and quota framework. Do not use a blog’s salary threshold as a decision. The document sequence that reduces delays

1. Ask the employer which pass it intends to apply for and who owns each submission step.
2. Match names, dates and qualifications across passport, CV, employment contract and supporting documents before submission.
3. Keep originals and certified translations ready where a document is not in English.
4. Do not book a non-refundable move, school place or long lease until the employer confirms the relevant approval stage.

Family and permanent residence are separate decisions

Family eligibility depends on the main pass holder and current MOM criteria; start with MOM’s Dependant’s Pass guidance. Permanent residence is a separate ICA application. ICA lists the eligible groups, documents, fees and current processing guidance on its permanent residence page. Eligibility to apply is not an assurance of approval.

What an American should treat differently

Your nationality does not replace the work-pass process. The practical US-specific issue is the parallel admin stack: passport validity, US tax filing, foreign-account reporting and your employer’s relocation timeline.
